A couple years ago when I was in Alaska for the first time, I got to go snorkeling.  Yep, snorkeling in 43 degree water.  It was really fun.  I got to see all sorts of fish and pet a jelly fish underwater (there were a ton of them!).

Since it’s been several years, you may be wondering why I bring this up.  Well, tonight I went running.  My right (bad) knee was a little sore, and my left shin seems to be developing shin splints ( 😦 ).  Well one option was getting ice, but the pool looked much more tempting.

Now, I’m sure you’re thinking a pool in Phoenix can’t be that cold, well, in a cold snap in October after the sun has gone down, that water gets cold!  It wasn’t quite 43 degrees, but it was cold!!!

speaking of which… it is definitely time to go back to Alaska…

So Much Fun

January 7, 2009 at 5:03 pm (Fun Stuff, Life, Winter Break) (, )

I love swimming.  In an outdoor.  At night.  In January.  And yes, I’m serious.

My mom and I are members at a local sports club which has a large outdoor saltwater pool.  In the winter, they put this huge bubble-tarp over the pool.  Its neat any time, but especially fun at night.  The only lighting comes from two underwater lights at opposite ends of the pool.  The pool is also heated during the winter, so the whole bubble fills with mist – thick enough that when combined with the limited lighting, you can’t see across the pool.  its a little spooky, but so much fun!
