Nooooooo

November 8, 2009 at 11:53 pm (Life, School, Spring 2010) (, , , )

Hey, sorry for not writing much recently.  Tomorrow.  I will find some time somewhere to write something interesting…

But anyway…. nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! One of the classes I was planning on taking in the spring has been cut due to budgets.  So now, instead of taking Emergency Scene Management, I will be taking Disaster Recovery Operations.  Eh, ok I guess, but probably not nearly as helpful.  Bummer.

All of the Sudden

November 2, 2009 at 1:23 pm (Fall 2009, Life, School, Spring 2010) (, , , , )

Why is it that all of the sudden I have sooooooo much stuff I need to do for school????

  • Papers for current classes.  I have 4 that need written (two by tomorrow), and one to be revised.
  • Extension for one of my classes (let’s just hope my dear advisor remembered this…. sigh)
  • Evaluation for one of my classes (next month, but its fast approaching)
  • Application for graduation (yikes! already???)
  • Application to the Master’s program
  • Transcript request for a couple scholarships.
  • Registration for next semester
  • Contracts for next semester.  I’m all set with one, with another my proposed mentor (teacher) is checking if he is allowed to mentor my class and for the third my proposed mentor hasn’t replied to my email…. Yikes!
  • Research paper approval (luckily this doesn’t need to be in until April….)

So, in an effort to keep caught up, I am working off both my computers at the same time (and you don’t even want to know how many programs I am running on each computer….)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Upcoming Classes

June 10, 2009 at 12:06 am (Life, School, Summer 2009, Summer Break) (, , )

Well its time for summer classes.

I am taking about 8 credits offered online be FEMA.  These courses are Basics of Disaster, Animals in Disaster, Special Events Contingency Planning, Household Hazardous Materials, Intro to Incident Command System, Livestock in Disaster, Special Needs Planning Considerations, Coordinating Environmental and Historic Preservation, and Anticipating Hazardous Weather and Community Risk.

Then at the end of the summer, I am taking Patrol Procedures and Officer Survival online through Maricopa.

In the fall, I want to take Crime Scene Processing and Intro to Digital Photography, both through Maricopa.  These will be in addition to the metorships through the other program

And then somewhere in there through in my internship.

A hard semester

February 18, 2009 at 2:50 am (Issues, Life, School, Spring 2009) (, , , , )

So far, this semester has been really hard.  Not that the content of any of my classes is all that challenging, in fact most of it is quite dull, and I already know the material.  On top of that, life just seems to be really stressful recently.  Since I decided to just finish my BA, I’ve been more focused on what that will look like rather than the classes I am currently taking.  I also just don’t like the people in my classes.  Not living in the dorms means that I really don’t ever see any of them (which is fine with me), but I also tend not to approach people all that often.  But, most of the time that works for me.  Anyway, tomorrow, I’m tutoring another student in Photoshop… So we’ll see how that goes…

Too Easy

November 5, 2008 at 8:08 pm (Issues, School, Spring 2009) (, , , , )

I should have known it was too easy.

Apparently Fire Intro and Fire Investigations are co-reqs.  But… Fire Investigations is only offered once every two years, and it happens to be this spring.  On top of that, my advisor won’t tell me if either of the other classes I need will be offered in the Fall (I was thinking I could swap out Fire Investigations for one of those classes I was planning on taking this spring).  Plus, I really don’t want to have to leave explorers for 4 months (besides, I learn more there then I ever have in college…), and its more likely for meetings to be on Tuesdays (Fire Investigations) than Fridays (my remaining free night).

This is so stupid!!!!!!!!  I am so close to being done.  My degree requires 5 of these “related requirements” but they only offer 8 options.

  • Internship – (Summer 09… hopefully….)
  • Principles of Supervision (Spring 09)
  • Fundamentals of Speech Communication (please no)
  • Introduction to Computer Information Systems (even worse)
  • Fire Investigation (I wanted to take this… but so much for that idea)
  • American National Government (blahhh)
  • Substance Abuse (in progress)
  • Domestic Violence (Spring 09)

I mean seriously.  Why doesn’t forensic anthropology count as a related subject??? It seems fairly related to me…

I even checked with the other 2 year colleges around the state.  I can’t figure out how to get it to work.

I’ve always thought that the guy in charge of this program didn’t like me; this is just another thing to add to my list of reasons why…

I wonder if I could do two internships………… hmmmmmmmmmmmm…………… that could be somethign to consider…

Oh also… why the  doesn’t my school know their schedule more than two months before the semester starts???!!!!!??????!!!!!!!! It makes it so hard to try to plan for graduation.  I am literally stuck hoping that in my last semester the school will offer the last few classes I need to graduate.

Week one – a retrospective

August 30, 2008 at 7:58 am (Fall 2008, School) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Well, for the most part my classes seem ok.  17 credits is a lot, but it seems doable.

Human Biology – this class is online.  The material itself is interesting (I guess), but the instructor only lists quarterly, unit due dates rather than for each assignment.  And thats hard for me, cause I’m good at putting stuff off.

Society and Technology – this is my other online class.  Its ok, and more importantly, its required for my degree…

Substance Abuse Psychology – I thought I would really like this class because I am so interested in the law enforcement perspective on drug use.  But a majority of the class is working towards a career in social work/medicine/psychology.  A few are very anti-any sort of drug control.  So I don’t know, I don’t think I’ll like this class as much as I thought I would.

Juvenile Justice – While not my favorite law enforcement subject, the class seems like it could be interesting.  Plus, the group seems ok.  The biggest problem is that it is mostly lecture.

Criminal Investigations – This should be my most interesting class.  In part cause I like the subject, but also because it is mostly comprised of hands on work.

Choir – I liked this class, but it was at a dreadful time.  But when I went to talk to the instructor about this problem, he said that he had wanted me in a more advanced choir anyway. So I’ll try this other class next week.

Hello world!

August 9, 2008 at 9:01 pm (Fall 2008, School) (, , , , )

Hello.  Over the past several months, I have been maintaining a blog about my family’s year hosting an exchange student from Russia.  And I’ve had a lot of fun (maybe I just like writing about myself…).  So I have decided that as the end of my adventures are in sight (2 years and counting!), that would be a topic worth chronicling.

I am a 19 year old Administration of Justice/Public Safety major.  I will be starting my second year in 2 weeks.  My first two years are at my local community college getting an associates degree in Administration of Justice.  After I graduate from that program (Dec ’09) I will be transferring to Alexandria Tech in Minnesota where I hope to get my Minnesota Peace Officer Certification by July ’10.

This semester I am enrolled in 5 classes: Choir, Human Biology (ewww), Substance Abuse/Psychology, Juvenile Justice, and Criminal Investigations.

I’m not sure what this blog will turn into, but like I said I like writing about myself so I’m sure you can count on something…
