Yeah…… so life got really busy……..

Last semester A, A, extension, extension

This semester I am finishing my internship (the two extensions from last semester), Firearms, Modern Disasters, CPR for Health Care Providers, Forensic Pathology: Advanced Death Investigations, and Advanced Photoshop.  Sounds like a fun semester to me.

My knee surgery is scheduled for Jan 29, at something crazy like 6am……..

Christmas was good, New Years was good, I will be writing more soon….

1. This video has always creeped me out a but.  Watch it and see if you can explain it.

2. Today I was again told I should choose a different line of work because I am too smart for this career.  Come on people, I think enjoying work is better than being intellectually challenged every day (that’s what hobbies are for)

3. As much as I don’t like WalMart, this christmas-y commercial is really clever

4. Speaking of Christmas, every week I drive by an 80 foot tall christmas tree.  They put it up the week before halloween, because it apparently takes a full month to decorate.  I’ll try to remember my camera to take a picture.

The Fearsome Foursome

December 27, 2008 at 6:54 pm (Fun Stuff, Life, Winter Break) (, , , )

Growing up, my three closest friends and I were collectivelly known as the Fearsome Foursome.  Well, as times change, only two of us are still living in our home town (though strangely enough, 3/4ths of us have family in the Twin Cities – that would be Minnesota). One has ended up at UW-Madison and the other at Lewis and Clark College

Anyway, three of us (plus families) are having a christmas/hanukkah party (the fourth is in Minnesota this week…).  If past christmas/hanukkah parties are anything to judge by, it should be really fun.

Santa Tracker

December 23, 2008 at 4:31 pm (Fun Stuff, Winter Break) (, , )

If you don’t know, every year, NORAD  (the North American Aerospace Defense Command) has a bit of fun and tracks santa sightings around the world.

How We Track Santa

NORAD uses four high-tech systems to track Santa – radar, satellites, Santa Cams and fighter jets.

Tracking Santa starts with the NORAD radar system called the North Warning System. This powerful radar system consists of 47 installations strung across the northern border of North America. On Christmas Eve, NORAD monitors the radar continuously for indications that Santa Claus has left the North Pole.

The moment that radar indicates Santa has lifted off, we use our second detection system. Satellites positioned in geo-synchronous orbit at 22,300 miles from the Earth’s surface are equipped with infrared sensors which enable them to detect heat. Amazingly, Rudolph’s bright red nose gives off an infrared signature which allow our satellites to detect Rudolph and Santa.

The third tracking system is the Santa Cam network. We began using it in 1998, which is the year we put our Santa Tracking program on the internet. Santa Cams are ultra-cool, high-tech, high-speed digital cameras that are pre-positioned at many locations around the world. NORAD only uses these cameras once a year on Christmas Eve. The cameras capture images and videos of Santa and his reindeer as they make their journey around the world.

The fourth system is made up of fighter jets. Canadian NORAD fighter pilots flying the CF-18 intercept and welcome Santa to North America. In the United States, American NORAD fighter pilots in either the F-15 or the F-16 get the thrill of flying alongside Santa and his famous reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and, of course, Rudolph.

That, from their website.

Anyway, its fun, so check out their website.  The first sighting is expected in about 18 hours.

Caroling on Campus

December 4, 2008 at 6:21 pm (Fall 2008, School) (, , )

Choir was fun this morning. For our dress rehearsal, we went around campus (the liberary, registration, the commons, the cafateria, the gym, and one of the dorms) singing some of our Christmas music. It was really fun. Or rather the first several stops were fun. After a while it got a little boring singing the same music over and over again. But over all, I think it was a fun way to end the semester.

What’s not so fun is the amount of homework I have to do before Saturday… I have 3 quizes, a report to finish, a paper, 2 reviews, 2 labs, and a powerpoint. If getting it done weren’t so stressful, it would be interesting to note how homework seems to go in waves; some weeks I’ll have nothing and other weeks (like this) I have no idea how I’ll get everything done. It doesn’t help that I’m ready to get the Christmas decorations out… I think I can get to that on Sunday, but maybe not till Wednesday. Oh well…

Buy This CD

November 14, 2008 at 9:26 pm (Fall 2008, Fun Stuff) (, , , )

If you’ve spent much time on you tube, its likely you’ve heard of Indiana University’s Straight No Chaser, a mens acapella choir.  Well this year for their tenth anniversary, they made a reunion Christmas CD.  Its really good, and well worth the few dollars it costs.

So yeah…. you should go get a copy of Straight No Chaser’s Holiday Spirits.
