Home Again

April 28, 2009 at 5:36 am (Fun Stuff, Law Enforcement, Life) (, , , )

Well, after my flight got delayed, I got home a 3am. ¬†Overall, my trip was good, but aside for the lack of water here, I’m happy to be home.

Then today, I got to upgrade my cell phone. ¬†I went from my trusty LG Chocolate to the Motorola Krave. ¬†Its pretty nifty! ¬†I’m still trying to figure it all out, but so far it’s fun.

Also today, I got a couple things I had ordered.  First, the 2009 pin from the National Law Enforcement Memorial (Police Week 2009 is May 10-16).  I also got a LED shower head that has blue or red lights depending on the water temperature.  And then, I got this neat push-up trainer thing.  I really like it, and think it will help me a lot.  The only thing is, part of it vibrates, and it tickles sooooo bad!!!!!!

One of my favorite snack foods is dried fruit and veggies from the company Just Tomatoes. ¬†With only one ingredient, “absolutely nothing added,” they are healthy like fruits and veggies, with the crunch of less healthy snacks. ¬†Well, I just discovered that they are now carrying my favorite fruit – apricots! Yum!!!

Where’s the Technology

March 7, 2009 at 8:02 pm (Life) (, , , )

Ok, I’ll admit it.¬† I think living in a rural mountainous area is over rated.¬† Sure, it can be nice at times.¬† But seriously…

Today, my gripe with where we live is the available technology, or lack there of.

For internet, our options are limited to dial up or satellite¬† (which, by the way looses the signal at the slightest hint of a storm).¬† Not real great options…

Also, cell phones don’t work here.¬† Sometimes, thats ok, but it does necessitate calling multiple numbers if you don’t know if a person is at home or not.¬† Plus, phone lists, and all that have to be doubled for at home.

So, in an effort to overcome this technological black hole, I’ve been looking at my options…

1. Wireless Extenders Yx 500-Cel Cellular Phone Signal Booster, $222, 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon.com

An antenna you place on the roof and wire to a base in the house.  Some reviews complain that you have to be right next to the base in order for it to work.

2. Wilson Building 800MHz / 65db Amplifier Kit, $700

Same basic idea, except is more powerful.  Much bigger antenna, is better able to pick up the signal.  Only downside appears to be the cost.

3. Verizon Wireless’ Network Extender, $250

Routes your cell signal through the wi-fi network in your house.¬† I’m not sure exactly how it works, but it looks really great.¬† Our internet meets their recommended speed.¬† You can have three calls going on at a time, plus a fourth line that is always reserved for emergencies.¬† Looks great, and just what I was looking for.¬† That is, until I see the little note which says its not recommended for satellite internet.¬† Great.¬† (But not reccomeneded isn’t the same as DO NOT USE, is it?)

Maybe we should move…
