Hey, sorry for not writing much recently.  Tomorrow.  I will find some time somewhere to write something interesting…

But anyway…. nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! One of the classes I was planning on taking in the spring has been cut due to budgets.  So now, instead of taking Emergency Scene Management, I will be taking Disaster Recovery Operations.  Eh, ok I guess, but probably not nearly as helpful.  Bummer.

Simple Pleasures

November 6, 2009 at 5:40 pm (Fall 2009, Fun Stuff, School) (, , )

I really like modular office furniture.  Kinda like this:

There is just so much room to spread out.  That is what I need in my room.

Update! My new desk should be here Tuesday! I found one I liked and decided to sleep on the idea (because it was more expensive than I anticipated), they when I went to look at it again it was on sale! $130 off plus free shipping to my house.  It seemed like fate, so I decided to get it 🙂

Well, in case anyone was really curious, I took a picture of the tree I mentioned.  It’s not the best quality, but oh well.

They are about halfway done decorating, but here it is…

1. This video has always creeped me out a but.  Watch it and see if you can explain it.

2. Today I was again told I should choose a different line of work because I am too smart for this career.  Come on people, I think enjoying work is better than being intellectually challenged every day (that’s what hobbies are for)

3. As much as I don’t like WalMart, this christmas-y commercial is really clever

4. Speaking of Christmas, every week I drive by an 80 foot tall christmas tree.  They put it up the week before halloween, because it apparently takes a full month to decorate.  I’ll try to remember my camera to take a picture.

Which is really better?

November 3, 2009 at 11:09 pm (Fall 2009, Travel) (, , )

So when I’m staying here, I get an Executive Suite, their biggest room (well suite ’cause there are 2 rooms).  Well, last week, there was a big group here and they had to put me in a Junior Suite (their second biggest room).  I have to admit… I liked the Junior Suite more… It is actually a room not a suite which really means more living space, ’cause who really needs a “living room” for 2 nights… And there was a counter and a comfier chair… oh well.

All of the Sudden

November 2, 2009 at 1:23 pm (Fall 2009, Life, School, Spring 2010) (, , , , )

Why is it that all of the sudden I have sooooooo much stuff I need to do for school????

  • Papers for current classes.  I have 4 that need written (two by tomorrow), and one to be revised.
  • Extension for one of my classes (let’s just hope my dear advisor remembered this…. sigh)
  • Evaluation for one of my classes (next month, but its fast approaching)
  • Application for graduation (yikes! already???)
  • Application to the Master’s program
  • Transcript request for a couple scholarships.
  • Registration for next semester
  • Contracts for next semester.  I’m all set with one, with another my proposed mentor (teacher) is checking if he is allowed to mentor my class and for the third my proposed mentor hasn’t replied to my email…. Yikes!
  • Research paper approval (luckily this doesn’t need to be in until April….)

So, in an effort to keep caught up, I am working off both my computers at the same time (and you don’t even want to know how many programs I am running on each computer….)

Rest in Peace

October 30, 2009 at 4:00 pm (Law Enforcement, Life) (, , , , )

On Monday, three DEA Agents were killed when their helicopter crashed in Afghanistan.  These were the first Agent deaths since the DEA began their anti-narcotics mission in Afghanistan in 2005.

Special Agent Michael E. Weston

Special Agent Forest N. Leamon

Special Agent Chad L. Michael

Remarks by DEA Acting Administrator Michele M. Leonhart:

Today, we mourn the tragic loss of three DEA Special Agents:

  • Chad L. Michael was 30 years old from Quantico, VA.
  • Michael E. Weston was 37 years old from Washington, D.C.
  • Forrest N. Leamon was 37 years old from Woodbridge, VA.

These were not ordinary men.  In a world where “ordinary” has become acceptable, these courageous human beings made “extraordinary” contributions.

They pledged an oath, they wore a badge, and they “stood the line.”

They were proud warriors performing a vital mission.  They were more than just Special Agents, they were also special Americans.  Like you, they volunteered to serve their country.  Like you, they believed in the mission.  Like you, they made the saving of lives their life’s work.

We are all saddened by this tragic event. DEA is an extremely tight family, and the death of these three brave agents is a devastating loss for us. We honor their service, bravery, and sacrifice.  We all stand taller and fight harder for having known them.  Their loss inspires us to even greater determination.

No expressions of grief can adequately convey the depth of the collective sorrow that we feel for their family and friends. The heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathies of everyone at DEA go out to them.

We owe our fallen heroes a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid, and we will forever cherish their call to service and carry their spirit in our hearts.

In closing, DEA would like to thank everyone, both civilian and military, who came to our aid by providing invaluable assistance and support during our time of need.  DEA will forever be grateful.

Thank you.

Restaurant Reviews

October 30, 2009 at 3:59 pm (Fall 2009, Fun Stuff, Restaurant Reviews) (, )

This week, I went to Pino’s Pizza Al Centro.

Super yummy!!!  Just the way I like pizza.  It’s fairly inexpensive (with very large pieces of pizza!), but they only take cash (unless your bill is over $25).

Next semester I have to take one of the following courses:

Emancipating the Mind, Community and Social Change, or The Liberal Artist’s Place in the Community of All Beings.

They sound so boringly awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have absolutely no interest in any of those courses, and I need to take one of them this spring in order to graduate.  I am very unhappy with my school’s stupid policy  😦
