Movies (reviews and trailers)

November 26, 2009 at 9:25 am (Fun Stuff) (, , , , )

Star Trek is finally out on DVD.  It’s not as good as on the big screen, but I still really like this movie.  I think it is my favorite of the movies.  I would to get a copy dubbed in German, but don’t have a Region 2 DVD player (mom, they start at $25 on amazon…. hint, hint…).

Angels and Demons is also finally on DVD.  Simply wonderful.  I love the history in this movie.  I hope the movie adaptation of The Lost Symbol (the third in the series) is just as good.

Last night, I saw The Men Who Stare at Goats.  It was bizarre, but really funny.  George Clooney and Ewan McGregor did an excellent job.

Up in the Air (also with George Clooney) looks good.  As does The Maiden Heist.

Thanksgiving Cooking

November 25, 2009 at 12:52 pm (Fun Stuff, Life) (, , , , )

This year for Thanksgiving dinner, I was given the task of preparing a green bean side dish.  Not being a fan of green bean casserole, I decided to try two (one vegetarian, one not) new dishes.

The vegetarian one is Garlicky Green Beans.  Which is green beans sauteed ini garlic, olive oil, parsley (though I don’t think I have any parsley), salt and pepper.  Ok, sounds a little boring but oh well.

The non-vegetarian dish is bundles of green beans wrapped in bacon and roasted.  I would have never thought to combine green beans and bacon, but it got good reviews online…

Yep, I’m Still Here

November 20, 2009 at 8:25 pm (Fall 2009, Fun Stuff, Issues, Life, School) (, , , , , , )

I don’t know why, but I have had the hardest time writing on my blog recently.  My life really can’t be that boring…

Ok, keys.  Last week, I went through no fewer than 3 sets of keys in the course of the week.  I locked my keys in the car… It took my 20 minutes to find the spare… I forgot about a set of keys in my jacket pocket… I left a set of keys in my weekly packing… I have since found all my keys and always have access to three copies.

Cabbage.  I want to know whose stupid idea it was to put cabbage on sandwiches.  Nasty!

In super exciting news, Griffin (Phoenix’s half brother) was born this past weekend.  He is super cute and friendly.  Pictures of both boys here.

Let’s see… what else.

In about 2 weeks I’m going to see the TransSiberian Orchestra (it’s a rock orchestra that does a christmas tour every year).  Here is their 2009 Promo:

It’s a lot of fun!!!!

My internship is wonderful! I really can’t say more about it, but I’m working with a great group of people on some really neat things and I’m greatly saddened by the fact that it is already half over.

I’m still backlogged with school.  Six things I absolutely must do this week (write a paper, turn in a paper, register for classes x2 schools, get an extension form signed, write contracts for 2 classes).  Everything else can wait a little bit.

In my study of German, I am now learning country and language names, which are actually kinda neat, because they are really similar to English, but just different enough that they sound really neat.  For example Ich bin Amerikanerin.  Ich spreche Englisch. However, my spelling still stinks.

I really can’t think of anything else to write right now…. I’ll try to write more often!

Upcoming Post

November 13, 2009 at 12:25 pm (Fun Stuff) (, , )

I don’t really have time to write right now, but when I do, it will be about keys, cabbage, and some other stuff.

Just thought I’d put that out there 😉

Nooooooo

November 8, 2009 at 11:53 pm (Life, School, Spring 2010) (, , , )

Hey, sorry for not writing much recently.  Tomorrow.  I will find some time somewhere to write something interesting…

But anyway…. nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! One of the classes I was planning on taking in the spring has been cut due to budgets.  So now, instead of taking Emergency Scene Management, I will be taking Disaster Recovery Operations.  Eh, ok I guess, but probably not nearly as helpful.  Bummer.

Simple Pleasures

November 6, 2009 at 5:40 pm (Fall 2009, Fun Stuff, School) (, , )

I really like modular office furniture.  Kinda like this:

There is just so much room to spread out.  That is what I need in my room.

Update! My new desk should be here Tuesday! I found one I liked and decided to sleep on the idea (because it was more expensive than I anticipated), they when I went to look at it again it was on sale! $130 off plus free shipping to my house.  It seemed like fate, so I decided to get it 🙂

Picture

November 5, 2009 at 9:57 pm (Fun Stuff) (, )

Well, in case anyone was really curious, I took a picture of the tree I mentioned.  It’s not the best quality, but oh well.

They are about halfway done decorating, but here it is…

Randomness

November 4, 2009 at 11:41 pm (Fun Stuff, Life) (, , )

1. This video has always creeped me out a but.  Watch it and see if you can explain it.

2. Today I was again told I should choose a different line of work because I am too smart for this career.  Come on people, I think enjoying work is better than being intellectually challenged every day (that’s what hobbies are for)

3. As much as I don’t like WalMart, this christmas-y commercial is really clever

4. Speaking of Christmas, every week I drive by an 80 foot tall christmas tree.  They put it up the week before halloween, because it apparently takes a full month to decorate.  I’ll try to remember my camera to take a picture.
