About Me

February 27, 2009 at 5:59 am (Issues, School, Spring 2009) (, )

To transfer from my AAS to BA, I have to write two eessays.  One of them is autobiographical – detailing (in two to thre double spaced pages) my interests.  I have absolutely no idea where to begin……………  Everything I write just sounds tackey and like I writing what they want me to write; which I guess I am but I don’t want it to sound that way…

43 Things

February 23, 2009 at 2:47 am (Fun Stuff, Life) (, )

There is a neat website that I’ve used every now and then.  Its called 43 Things.  You compile a list of 43 Things you want to do.  They can be short term goals or long term goals or whatever.  Its kinda neat.  Its also interesting to see what the most popular goals are.

Autism Blogs

February 19, 2009 at 5:47 am (Blogs, Issues, Life) (, , )

There aren’t to many things where I take up an activist-type position.

Yes.  I think you should rescue, spay/neuter dogs and other pets (unless specifically using them as working dogs).

Yes.  I think people should be less careless about the enviroment.

Yes.  I try to avoid feedlot, steroid-ed meat.

But, since my cousin was diagnosed with autism, its become very clear that people really don’t know about autism spectrum disorders.  You say you know someone who is autistic, and they say “Oh really, what’s that?”  Well, considering the current statistics indicate that 1 in 150 American children will be diagnosed with autism, I think that more people should know about autism, not to mention that there needs to be more research about the cause and treatment of autism.

Well, tonight when I was browsing  through the wordpress archives, I found a few blogs I liked that are written by the parents of autistic children.

http://lifeasaplatypus.wordpress.com/ Mom of 4 and 2 year old sons, one of whom has autism

http://teenautism.com Mom of a 14 year old son with autism

http://asdmommy.wordpress.com/ Mom of a 7 year old son with autism

Gahhh I Hate School

February 19, 2009 at 1:24 am (Life, School) (, , )

Ok maybe not school, but the classes, the people in the classes, and more often it seems, everything else.

There is one person on particular (who I wrote about last semester) who is just so annoying. He has this obnoxious habit of thinking I like to chat before class – like it’s really his business if I think I passed last weeks test (which I did). There are just some people who should go sit in a dark closet and never come out.

I guess my classes are ok. But none of then are really that interesting or fun… Four weeks down, eight to go…

As for the rest of life. Nothing is fun. I never seem to see my family, and when I do everyone is busy or stressed or has something else they need to be doing. I never see my boyfriend, ’cause his new job has him working 2 nights and 5 days a week most weeks. Starting college has pretty much ruined my friendships with my three closest friends.

I think I am so in need of a vacation. New Zealand is still very high on my list. I also think it would be fun to take a trip to some place tropical. And of course, I wouldn’t say no to going back to Alaska. Besides, I just found out that Royal Caribbean cruise line has ice rinks on all their ships! Can you imagine snorkeling with sea turtles all day and then doing ice skating on a gently rocking ship? Sounds wonderful to me. Spring break is in four weeks, maybe I should go somewhere then…

Several years ago, I had a tube of toothpaste that was like orange-spice.  Well, I have found it in the store!!!  It is Jason NutriSmile Orange, Cinnamon & Mint Toothpaste.  It has a simply wonderful taste.  Be warned though that it foams way more than any other toothpaste I’ve ever used…

What Distracts me from School

Click to Mix and Solve

A while back, my aunt (I think) sent my mom and I the link to this website, JigZone.  Which has daily jigsaw puzzles that are so much more fun than doing school work…

That being said, I am working on a paper right now for my fire science class about the three types of Rapid Fire Phenomia: Flashover, Backdraft, and Gas-Fire Ignition.  Its actually really interesting.

So, if you have a few minutes click the puzzle and all the pieces will shuffle for you to complete the puzzle.  Or click the link and see the puzzle of the day.

A hard semester

February 18, 2009 at 2:50 am (Issues, Life, School, Spring 2009) (, , , , )

So far, this semester has been really hard.  Not that the content of any of my classes is all that challenging, in fact most of it is quite dull, and I already know the material.  On top of that, life just seems to be really stressful recently.  Since I decided to just finish my BA, I’ve been more focused on what that will look like rather than the classes I am currently taking.  I also just don’t like the people in my classes.  Not living in the dorms means that I really don’t ever see any of them (which is fine with me), but I also tend not to approach people all that often.  But, most of the time that works for me.  Anyway, tomorrow, I’m tutoring another student in Photoshop… So we’ll see how that goes…

A light spot

February 12, 2009 at 7:10 pm (Issues, Life, Spring 2009) (, , , )

The wildlife deaths in the Victoria, Aus Widfires are estimated in the millions.

But this week, Sam the Koala was given a second chance.  She was found by volunteer firefighter David Tree, who stopped to give her a drink of water.  The fire crew brought Sam to a wildlife rehab center where she is being treateed for a burnt paw, and they hope to be able to release her back in to the wild in about 5 months.

While this picture and video have made Sam famous around the world, Bellerine a possum with 3-degree burns on her feet, an echidna suffering from somke inhalation, a wallaby joey whose ears and face were singed when he stuck his head out of his mom’s pouch after she had been killed in the fire, a turtle whose shell had begun to melt when he was found, and many others are being treated.  And, more than 200 endangered Tasmanian devils, mountain pigmy possums, helmeted honeyeaters and frogs have been evacuated.

As you can imagine, Wildlife Victoria is very much in need of support right now. The Australian Red Cross is also in need of donations to help the thousands of displaced families.
